[Denton, TX – September 8, 2026] – StorageDefender Inc., the pioneer of Smart Units as a service for the self-storage industry, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued U.S. Patent No. 12,694,738, “Devices, systems, and methods for monitoring controlled spaces for transitory uses.” The patent was granted on July 28, 2026.
This is the third patent issued to StorageDefender in 2026 and the eighth in the company’s portfolio to date, with additional applications pending. It belongs to the same patent family as the company’s earlier grants relating to individual monitoring of controlled spaces such as self-storage units. That area of development began with StorageDefender’s first patent filings in January 2019 and now extends across Smart Storage Units, Smart Zones, and the company’s broader smart facility platform.

Insured Facilities Running SBOA Tenant Insurance and StorageDefender Cut Costs Associated with Theft by 52% Per Unit
SBOA Tenant Insurance today reported that insured facilities equipped with StorageDefender Smart Units recorded materially lower theft losses than comparable facilities without them.
